Since 2006 when the EU Landfill Directive came into force, it has been illegal to dispose of waste tyres in landfill sites, and our low-cost tyre recycling solution provides the perfect answer if you need to get rid of old tyres. We support the reduction, reuse, and recycling of the materials we collect.

We can collect your old tyres at a convenient time, in or out of normal business hours and will recycle them in a safe, effective, and compliant manner.

What are the benefits of tyre recycling?

More than 40 million tyres reach the end of their life each year in the UK. There are many advantages to tyre recycling, including:

  • Saves landfill space: Tyres are big and bulky, and a lot of space is wasted. 75 per cent of the space taken is air, so they fill up this finite space far quicker than other types of waste.

  • Turned into useful products: Recycled tyres can be turned into a host of other valuable products, including tyre-derived fuel, sports surfaces, playgrounds, insulation, and more. It takes 2500 recycled tyres to make a safe and soft all-weather surface for children’s play areas.

  • Saves natural resources: Recycling tyres means that fewer companies need to manufacture fewer materials made from rubber going forward, saving an impressive amount of energy. This also reduces pollution.

  • Prevents disease: Tyres can become breeding grounds for rodents and other vermin that carry diseases. Rats, for example, carry Leptospirosis (Weil’s Disease), Salmonella, and Toxoplasmosis.

  • Cost-effective: Despite myths that recycling tyres is expensive, we can cost-effectively recycle your tyres.

What happens to recycled tyres?

The importance of tyres in our everyday lives cannot be underestimated, and you may not think twice about what happens to them when they are recycled. Tyres are classified as ‘hazardous waste’, but when they are recycled, they can be turned into a number of materials.

  • Energy recovery: Tyres can be turned into fuel and replace coal in some cases. Emissions from tyre-derived fuels are lower than emissions from coal.

  • Re-treading: Olds tyres with enough structural integrity can be remoulded using recycled rubber treads to create new tyres. This costs a fraction of the price of creating a tyre from scratch. It is believed that around half of all bus and truck tyres have been re-treaded.

  • Re-used: Rubber can be used in many different materials, used in construction and engineering. This includes materials for roads, walls, insulation, and more.

  • Recycled: Once other materials in the tyre, such as steel, have been removed, the tyre can be shredded and ground into a rubber crumb. This is used on a whole host of surfaces, including playground and sports ground flooring, carpet underlay, speed bumps, running tracks, and more.
